a specialty pharmaceutical company focusing on acquiring, developing and commercializing significant products primarily for the respiratory and related markets.
Challenge: They encountered two main problems. First, updating the model with actual data took nearly a month. Second, managing scenarios that reflect various assumptions about cash flows and expenses became very difficult.
Solution: With Whitebirch, financial planning is much more about management of assumptions and less about data entry.
Results: Now it takes less than an hour each month to maintain the model and update it with actual data. So more time is spent on analyzing financials and working on scenarios. |

Organization: Province of Saskatchewan, Ministry of Education. Oversees the learning of Saskatchewan’s 200,000+ school children pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
Challenge: Overcoming an historic city-versus-rural imbalance in education funding across the Province’s four regions, 28 school divisions, 719 schools and 1000 municipalities
Need: When the current government took office it promised to redress that imbalance, lowering school property taxes especially in rural areas, where the cost to educate a student is much higher. With less money available to schools from property taxes, the Province would make up the difference with direct payments to school divisions.
Solution: Replace a custom-built Visual Basic application called FOG (Foundational Operating Grant) with Whitebirch Enterprise Planning, both for modeling and for producing the actual monthly payment approvals for the individual school divisions.
Results: Policy analysts and advisors use Whitebirch Enterprise Planning to perform their analysis instead of consolidating and managing Excel spreadsheets or requesting changes to custom-built software. Multiple team members can now access the model simultaneously for analysis, with appropriate locks and protection in place to avoid inadvertent changes where there shouldn’t be. They use Whitebirch Enterprise Planning to make changes to their model each year without affecting previous year results. |
